Seven illustrated planning reminders. This file opens without internet; the source links need a connection. These are not complete instructions, certifications, a plant identification guide or medical care. Learn practical skills with qualified local instructors. Call 911 for emergencies in the US.
Practice with utility cord and a tarp under a local mentor. Inspect abrasion and anchors, allow for changing weather, and recheck tension. This reminder does not teach a load-bearing knot. Never use this setup for climbing, rescue or supporting people.
National Park Service · campsite planning ↗Confirm permission. Check for dead limbs overhead, drainage channels below, exposure and current weather. Avoid washes and flood-prone ground. Do not dig drainage trenches. Tarps and tents are not lightning shelters: seek a substantial building or fully enclosed hard-topped vehicle.
National Park Service · camping safety ↗Prefer verified drinking water. Reject suspected fuel or chemical contamination. For germ-risk water, settle or strain sediment first, then use an appropriate treatment. A cloth alone does not disinfect. Boil clear water for 1 minute, or 3 above 6,500 feet; treatment products follow their own label. Cool and store clean and covered.
CDC · emergency water ↗Check local restrictions and your equipment’s instructions. Fuel-burning stoves belong outdoors, away from shelters and combustible material. Never use one in a tent or vehicle. High winds or restrictions can make a no-cook meal the better plan. No fire is required to progress here.
CDC · carbon monoxide ↗An illustration, phone app or game card is not an identification. Learn the whole plant and toxic look-alikes with a qualified local instructor. Confirm site cleanliness and permission. Never taste unknown plants or mushrooms. Small servings of greens supplement a meal; they do not replace calories.
Poison Control · plant safety ↗Use matched commercial equipment and compatible undamaged chargers. Follow manufacturer instructions; keep charging equipment cool and dry. Do not repair a swollen or damaged battery. Solar output changes with weather and shade. Store an offline route and keep a paper backup. The game’s charge points are abstract, not a battery sizing calculator.
US Fire Administration · batteries ↗Use clean dressings and hand hygiene. Worsening warmth, pain, swelling, pus, spreading redness or fever needs medical assessment. Do not squeeze or cut a sore, and do not put unidentified plants in a wound. Rest and game skill never cure an infection. Severe illness, confusion or breathing trouble calls for emergency help.
